Depression

Depression is a natural response we have when our brain thinks there is some sort of danger. When the caveman/woman looked out of the cave and saw danger all around, they would have hidden away and stayed in the cave until the danger passed. We have adapted this to modern day depression.  It can become a vicious cycle, as when we feel depressed and low, we don’t want to engage in the things that make us feel better. Depression is defined by the NHS as a” low mood that can last a long time or keep returning, affecting your everyday life”.

What are the symptoms of depression?

Symptoms can range from lasting feelings of unhappiness and hopelessness, to losing interest in the things you used to enjoy and feeling very tearful. There can be physical symptoms too, such as feeling constantly tired, sleeping badly, having no appetite or sex drive, and various aches and pains.
