Solution focused hypnotherapy is a talking therapy which combines psychotherapy with trance. It focusses on the solution rather than the problem – looking forward rather than dwelling on the past. Using practical, structured, and well-researched strategies underpinned by neuroscience, it helps people make significant, positive changes in their lives.

We start each session looking at what has been good about your week, talking about how the mind works and having solution focused discussions on how you would like things to be in the future. For example, in your preferred future if the problem didn’t exist, what would you be doing differently? We then do some guided relaxation where the mind can relax, consolidate what has been discussed, take on useful suggestions and form new, more positive neural pathways.

Hypnosis, or trance, is very natural and ordinary in many ways. We go in and out of trance many times a day when we are concentrating on something like watching television, walking, running, or driving on a regular route…we do it all the time.

A state of deep relaxation is encouraged using guided relaxation where the mind can relax, allowing it to then focus, with enhanced capacity, and respond to thoughts and suggestions that might be useful. Many clients describe it as feeling like a nice relaxing massage!

We can’t control your mind! You will still be in control, and you can decide whether suggestions are useful or not: our brains will not accept or allow us to do anything that goes against our own values and will.
